The storage consultant
Most customers do not know an M.2 from a microSD - they just know their console is full. The technician who can explain their options in plain language wins the job and the referral. This lesson is the consultation.
The questions to ask
- What console and model? - the answer decides every option
- How full is it now? - and how quickly does it fill?
- What do they play? - huge AAA installs vs small indie titles
- Are saves and captures backed up? - fix this first if not
- What is their budget? - match the drive to what they will spend
The recommendation framework
- Casual player, space is the issue - larger internal drive or external storage
- Performance gamer - a quality SSD or NVMe drive for fast loads
- Collector / creator - speed plus large archive plus backup plan
- Budget conscious - a large external HDD is the cheapest fix
Communicate in plain language
Explain in terms they know: "an SSD loads your games several times faster", "a 2 TB drive holds around 40 big games". Avoid acronyms unless you define them, show the price range, and give a clear recommendation with the reasoning.
