About this course

Handmade soap and candles are satisfying, useful and surprisingly simple once you understand the science behind them. This course takes you from complete beginner to making your own natural soap and candles at home - safely, and without expensive kits.

You will start with the essentials: how soap is made, how to work with lye safely, which oils and butters build the best bars, and how to set up a simple soap-making station with tools you probably already have.

You will master **cold process soap** - mixing, tracing, pouring, unmolding, cutting and curing - and learn to colour your bars with natural clays, herbs and blended pigments. Then you will explore **melt & pour** soap, **liquid castile soap**, and the troubleshooting skills that turn beginner mistakes into beautiful batches.

The second half of the course is all about candles: choosing wax, wicks and containers, pouring container candles, making pillar and molded candles, working with beeswax, and fixing the classic problems - tunneling, frosting and sinkholes - before they happen.

Finally you will branch into the wider natural home: powdered laundry detergent, bath salts and sugar scrubs, professional packaging and labeling for your soap, and the simple steps to turn your hobby into side income.

Requirements

A clean, well-ventilated workspace with a flat surface
Safety gear: nitrile gloves, goggles and long sleeves for soap making
Basic kitchen tools: digital scale, thermometer, mixing bowls
A simple mold (a 3-pound loaf mold, silicone molds, or clean jars)
No prior craft or chemistry experience required
