Soap and candle making are the friendliest crafts you can learn for your home. With a few simple ingredients - oils, lye, wax and wicks - you can create natural soap bars, liquid soap, container and pillar candles, plus home-care recipes like laundry detergent, bath salts and sugar scrubs. Everything you make is personally usable, giftable and even sellable.

- Module 5 - home care, gifts, packaging and selling
What you will need to begin
- A clean, well-ventilated workspace with a flat surface
- Nitrile gloves, goggles and long sleeves (for the lye lessons)
- A digital scale, a thermometer and stainless steel or plastic bowls
- A simple mold: a 3-pound loaf mold, silicone molds, or clean jars
Tip: Both crafts reward patience. Soap cures for weeks and candles cure for days before they perform at their best. Plan your first batch when you can comfortably wait - good things come to those who wait (and label).
