The 13.52 Jailbreak Landscape

The scene moved again

The PS4 scene you learned about in Module 1 has moved on. The old "golden rule" list of 5.05, 6.72, 7.02 and 9.00 is no longer the whole story - a webkit-based jailbreak now covers a much wider range, including firmware 13.52. This lesson is the update: what is supported right now, and how to tell a real release from a rumour.

What is supported now

• 13.52 and the surrounding 13.xx builds - the current headline target
• 13.02, 13.04 and 13.50 - also covered by the same exploit family
• 6.72 through 13.52 - the range the current public host pages advertise
• 14.00 and above - outside the supported range, and patching is expected

HEN vs GoldHEN

• HEN - the base payload. Gets you a working homebrew environment.
• GoldHEN - the community payload on top of HEN, adding FTP, debug settings, package installer and game patching
• GoldHEN v2.4b18.11 - the release that added official 13.52 support

Semi-untethered, not permanent

This is the single most important expectation to set. A 13.52 jailbreak does not survive a full power off. The payload unloads when the console restarts, and you re-trigger it from the same host page. In practice that means a short, repeatable routine rather than a one-time event.

Warning: Do not update a 13.52 console to 14.00 expecting the jailbreak to follow it. Once you are past the supported range, you are back to waiting for the next release.

Tip: Write the supported range and the host you used in the console's service log. Firmware support moves, and you will want the history later.
