The retimer refreshes the HDMI signal
Xbox One S/X boards place a small IC (commonly TDP158) between the HDMI port and the encoder to re-shape the signal. When it dies, the console shows no signal or a black screen at high resolutions even though everything else is fine.
Diagnose it
- No signal / black screen at 4K but console boots
- Diode tests around the retimer differ between L/R channels
- Compare against a working board to isolate the IC
Replace it
- Confirm the chip marking (TDP158) and order the correct donor
- Remove with controlled hot air, clean pads, check for lifted pads
- Seat the new IC, align, heat until solder wets
- Verify image at all resolutions before reassembly
Warning: These ICs are often only available from donor boards. Buy from a reliable source and match the exact marking.

- Diode-test its pins against a reference board
