PS4 White Light of Death: Full Board Repair

The White Light of Death is a video-chain fault

PS4 blue light, black screen, white light - most variants trace back to the HDMI circuit: a damaged port, broken TMDS traces, or a dead encoder. This is the most common board repair in console shops.

Diagnose in order

1. Confirm the console boots (fans, beeps, network activity) despite no video
2. Inspect the HDMI port for pin damage under magnification
3. Diode-test the TMDS lines against a working board
4. Check the encoder IC and its rails
5. Repair the fault: replace port, rebuild traces, or swap the encoder

Why it repeats

Force on the port, stiff cables and yanks crack pins and lift traces. Proper strain relief on the cable prevents the return visit. Replace the port with a good one and always inspect the board for lifted pads.

Warning: Cables bent sharply can break the new port the same way. Advise customers on cable strain relief.
