The moment it pays off
With OPL configured and a library in place, the next step is booting a game you already own. This lesson walks through the first successful launch and the common reasons a first launch fails.
The boot sequence
- Open OPL from FreeMcBoot
- Choose your storage mode tab (USB, SMB or HDD)
- Highlight a game and press X (or the configured button) to start it
- Wait for the game's own logos to appear - the first launch can take 30-60 seconds
First-launch faults and fixes
| Symptom | Most likely cause | Fix |

| Game list is empty | Wrong folder or storage mode disabled | Confirm DVD/CD folders exist and the mode is enabled in Settings |
| Stuck on a black screen | Incompatible default settings | Try the game's compatibility mode (see next lesson) |
| FMV stutters | Fragmented USB or slow SMB share | Defragment the drive or switch to HDD/SMB |
| Game boots then freezes | Bad ISO rip or wrong mode | Re-rip from the original disc you own and verify the ISO |
The 30-second rule
OPL games can take noticeably longer to start than a real disc. Give each launch at least 30-60 seconds before assuming it has failed. Rushing to press buttons is how you get false "broken" reports.
Warning: Only boot backups of games you actually own. Installing ripped copies of games you never bought is piracy - and it is the fastest way to build a reputation no customer trusts.
Tip: Start with a small, well-known game for your first test (a title with simple FMV) rather than the biggest game you own.
